Australia’s Digital Economy Strategy aims to transform the country a leading digital economy and society by 2030. To achieve this, Australia is committed to working with bilateral partners, such as Vietnam. Vietnam is preparing for the Fourth Industrial Revolution by upgrading its trade, manufacturing, and industrial sectors. Vietnam’s Prime Minister has approved a National Digital Transformation Agenda to 2025, with a vision to 2030. This sets an aspiration for the digital economy to contribute 30% of GDP by 2030. The country’s digital economy has seen significant growth over the last decade and is expected to be valued at US$57 billion by 2025, with the Vietnamese government facilitating a regulatory and incentives-based environment to promote technological innovation in ICT infrastructure, cybersecurity and e-government.  

To maximize the benefits of this transformation for businesses, Australia and Vietnam are actively enhancing their digital trade commitments through regional and global trade agreements like AANZFTA e-commerce upgrades and the ASEAN-Australia Digital Trade Standards initiative, aiming to promote international standards in digital trade. Additionally, to build upon these existing initiatives, Vietnam and Australia are also developing a Digital Economy MoU, for greater implementation of digital trade rules and to build consumer confidence and trust.
