Watch on demandWith a population reaching almost 300 million individuals, the Indonesian government is committed to safeguarding the personal information of its citizens through its Law No. 27 of 2022. This legislation aims to uphold individuals’ rights in society concerning the processing of both their electronic and non-electronic data.
The Personal Data Protection (PDP) law, which mandates compliance no later than October 16, 2024, applies universally to individuals, companies, public agencies, and international organizations operating within or outside Indonesia’s jurisdiction who collect personal data (such as their names, age, citizenship, biometric, health, and financial information) from Indonesian citizens.
It is crucial for businesses affected by this legislation to adhere to the stipulated deadline as failure to comply or violations of the PDP Law can incur substantial criminal fines of up to IDR 60,000,000,000 (USD 4 Million), administrative fines of up to 2% of annual revenue, suspension of business activities, or imprisonment.
