Vietnam Increases Import Duties on Certain Commodities
Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance has issued Circular No. 91/2011/TT-BTC dated June 20, 2011, amending import tax rates for certain goods in the Preferential Import Tariff.
Beginning August 4, 2011, import tax rates increase for some items in the Preferential Import Tariff according to the list of taxable goods issued together with Circular No. 184/2010/TT-BTC by the Ministry of Finance.
The tax rates will increase from 25 percent to 32 percent for commodities such as sauces and sauce preparations, spice mixtures and soup mixtures, and mustard flour and prepared mustard.
Tax rates will increase from 32 percent to 36 percent for equipment used in restrooms and iron or steel spare parts thereof.
Tax rates for some items, such as shelled nuts, will increase from 20 percent up to 30 percent.
For “pure” or “reconstituted” tobacco, and other tobacco products such as chewing tobacco, the tax rate increase will be from 30 percent to 50 percent.
