Dezan Shira Presents to US Industry Leaders at Global Markets Conference
The U.S. Commercial Service drew more than 300 leaders and executives to its DISCOVER GLOBAL MARKETS: Greater China Business Forum, held October 7-8 at the New York Athletic Club.
This was the fourth event in a nationwide conference series put on by the Commercial Service focusing on different areas of the world where U.S. companies may be interested in conducting operations.
The Greater China Forum consisted of two days of keynote speeches, numerous breakout panels, and the chance for one-on-one discussion with China business experts.
Carmela Mammas, Director of the New York U.S. Export Assistance Center, gave a recap of the forum’s success: “This unique event provided attendees with unsurpassed access to recognized experts, U.S. Commercial Service Diplomats and high-level government officials who provided practical, actionable insights to help companies effectively expand their business in Greater China and gateway markets.”
Among these speakers, Dezan Shira’s Richard Cant, Yangzte River Delta Regional Director, was invited to weigh in on the Services panel. His presentation focused on the challenges that U.S. service companies encounter when starting out in China.
“It’s always a pleasure to participate in events run by the U.S. Commercial Service,” said Cant. “The conference provided real value for companies regardless of whether they’re already in the China market, or have yet to dip their toes in. I was happy to share my view of the services sector and its specific challenges for U.S. companies.”
While foreign investment in the service sector is currently on the upswing, companies must be aware of the restrictions on foreign investment in specific industries stipulated by the Chinese government, as well as any hurdles they may face in obtaining the various licenses needed to conduct operations in China.
