Director Richard Cant to Head Up Dezan Shira’s North American Operations

To better serve our growing North American client base, Dezan Shira & Associates is proud to announce that Richard Cant, former Yangtze River Delta Regional Director, will be relocating to the United States to take on the role of Director of North American operations starting in early March.

Richard will work out of Dezan Shira’s U.S. liaison office in Boston, a strategic hub and the largest city in the New England region of the United States. Richard will work to expand Dezan Shira and Asia Briefing’s footprints in North America. His primary focus will be working with new and existing American and Canadian clients and partners in relation to outward investment into China, India, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, and other ASEAN countries.

Based in Boston and in cooperation with our partners at KLR, Richard will travel across the country, engaging our key partners in the Leading Edge Alliance and Integra International, as well as meeting with clients and providing hands-on service for those looking for help in China, India, Vietnam, Singapore, and the wider ASEAN region.

Richard has spent the past five years with Dezan Shira as a Regional Director operating out of our Shanghai office, where he regularly guided North American clients seeking to enter the Chinese marketplace or to expand their operations there. Richard also regularly presents on business and investment in Asia in front of numerous trade, international, and professional associations, speaking at over 40 events in 2014.

Richard is an Australian lawyer and CPA with over twenty-five years experience in business and commercial consulting both in Australia and China. He was previously a partner at Ernst & Young Australia. Richard holds an LLB from the University of Adelaide and an LLM from the University of Sydney. His expertise covers the following:

• China and Asia international tax structuring
• China and Asia FDI, including corporate formation, joint ventures and partnerships, and other investment structures and strategies
• Due diligence and M&A transactions
• Transfer pricing
• Corporate and personal tax filings
• Trademark and patent registration

Mr. Chet Scheltema will replace Richard as Regional Manager of the Yangtze River Delta area, which encompasses our Shanghai, Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Suzhou offices. Chet was previously based in our Beijing office, where he oversaw the implementation of our international business advisory services.
