Working Group Meeting on China’s Regional Cities
On June 8, Partner at Dezan Shira & Associates, Sabrina Zhang, spoke at an Inter-Chamber Working Group Meeting held in cooperation with the European Union Chamber of Commerce, the EU SME Centre and Accesspath, to discuss opportunities for investment in China’s regional cities.
What was discussed?
Most companies consider so called “first-tier cities” in their entry into the Chinese market, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. However, with changing trends in the Chinese economy, more opportunities in China’s other tier cities are opening up. Discussions at this meeting revolved around entering these cities instead, whether through relocation, expansion, or as a first entry into the market.
At the meeting, Sabrina discussed the business environment in these regional cities, outlining the many opportunities and challenges faced by European companies attempting to enter the market. Additionally, Sabrina brought insight into which business structures should be considered by foreign investors during their entry or expansion into China.
General Manager of SRCC Transit Technology, Jurriaan Meyer, then spoke about his experience of living and operating his business in a third tier city, Jinan.
