Dezan Shira & Associates Speaks at American Payroll Association’s Congress
In mid-May, Dezan Shira’s Manager of Human Resources and Payroll Services, Helen Kong and US Desk East Coast Manager, Maria Kotova attended the American Payroll Association’s 36th annual congress in the US.
What was discussed?
The conference attracts HR and payroll professionals from around the world to network, share their expertise at over 180 workshops and learn from industry vendors.
As a guest speaker, Helen was invited to present at one of the workshops on site, covering payroll in China and Vietnam. Helen offered her expertise on China and Vietnam payroll, advising employers and employees alike on how to calculate social welfare contributions in each country and what the contribution bases and applicable rates are. Further, Helen compared both countries’ policies regarding overtime and statutory leave, explained how to set up the probation period and the rules and regulations on calculating severance payment.

Helen Kong is based in Dezan Shira’s Dalian office and advises clients daily on overcoming HR and payroll issues to optimize their payroll systems. Maria Kotova is based in Shanghai and is also responsible for the firm’s Russian and US desks, offering advice on regulatory issues and corporate formation.
