Alberto Vettoretti Speaks with Marketplace on USMCA Impact

Earlier this month, our Managing Partner, Alberto Vettoretti, featured on a podcast by Marketplace which examined the impact of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on China. Under the new agreement, members of the USMCA are encouraged to source manufacturing parts from member countries to avoid penalties.

“I don’t have a single client that looked at moving back to the U.S. All of them are looking at Asia”.

When asked to comment on businesses moving parts of their production outside of China as a result of the USMCA, Vettoretti comments that the trade war and new agreement have just accelerated this process, estimating that 10-15% of Dezan Shira & Associates’ clients in manufacturing have in fact added production lines in other countries, rather than completely relocating.

“I don’t have a single client that looked at moving back to the U.S.. All of them are looking at Asia”. Vettoretti goes on to emphasise that the majority of these clients are focusing on Southeast Asian countries, such as Vietnam, for conducting their manufacturing-based operations.
