On 28 March 2019, Valeria Manunza, our International Business Advisory Assistant Manager, and Cherry Wu, HR & Payroll manager, presented at the “Hiring and Recruitment, Methodology and Issues” seminar organized by the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce in Guangzhou.

Labor Disputes and Employment Contracts in China

During the seminar, Valeria discussed various causes of labor disputes and the surrounding circumstances in South China. Cherry went on to share her professional knowledge on hiring and recruitment issues and methodologies in China by giving an overview on topics such as employment contracts, staff handbooks, termination & severance pay.

Valeria explained, “employees are definitely more aware of their rights and they’re not afraid to fight for them. This also means that they’re not afraid of raising labor disputes or starting a legal trial. The risk of the labor disputes is immense, and this is a problem which affects the management of a company.”

At the event, several employers were interested in seeking advice and further detail on topics such as the job handovers, termination letters and severance pay, but also about staff handbooks and specific regulations of Chinese law.
