Discussing Personal Data Protection and Network Security Measures from a Legal and IT Perspective
On Oct 22 2020, Dezan Shira & Associates and Zhong Lun Law Firm – in collaboration with the British Chamber of Commerce (BritCham), Guangdong – organised a seminar at Zhong Lun’s Guangzhou office on personal data protection and network security measures for companies in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
Personal data protection, privacy rights, as well as network and cybersecurity have become increasingly important issues in China due to recent regulatory changes and compliance requirements.
Dezan Shira and Zhong Lun each approached the topic from a different perspective, with Zhong Lun discussing the legal considerations of data protection while Thomas Zhang, our Group IT Director, spoke about the IT aspects.
During his presentation, Thomas introduced important concepts and terminologies about personal data protection and introduced several common technical control measures used in data protection such as encryption, Data Loss Prevention and Identity and Access Management, etc. In addition, Thomas also discussed different ways companies can keep in compliance with China’s data security requirements.
With the Chinese government increasingly focused on improving data protection, it is important that companies in China form their own internal company policies on data privacy, cybersecurity, and data leakages, and improve their IT systems and measures to ensure strong network security and prevent the disclosure or leakage of data.
