European Business Trips Resume, with Travel to France and Italy
As lockdowns and cases have eased in Europe, our Head of EU Business Development, Riccardo Benussi, traveled to Paris, France on September 13, 2021 as one of our first international business trips since the outbreak began – our first being a three week business trip around Italy in June.
When the Covid-19 pandemic began in early 2020, in-person meetings, seminars, and conferences ground to a halt across much of the world – including in Europe, one of the first places to be hit and subsequently go into lockdown.
Seminars became webinars, in-person meetings became video calls, and conferences were postponed or outright cancelled.
It was not until more recently that we have been able to return to meeting in person – all while respecting prevention best practices such as social distancing, wearing masks, etc.
In Paris, Riccardo met with the newly created French desk of ETL Global, an international business alliance whom we partner with to help advise clients on foreign direct investment in Asia.
He also had an opportunity to reconnect with partners from IR Global – where Dezan Shira & Associates serves as exclusive members in Vietnam for Foreign Direct Investment and Accounting Services.
With many European economies successfully devising ways to live with the virus, we are pleased to once again be able to meet in person with business contacts, clients, and local companies who are doing, or would like to do business, in Asia.

Dezan Shira & Associates’ EU Presence
The EU has significant trade and investment dealings with Asia – ASEAN and China are both among the bloc’s top three trade partners outside the EU. France alone, accounted for over 44 billion EUR in FDI in Asia’s most prominent economies in 2020. With parts of Asia rapidly developing and the EU pursuing trade agreements with Asian counterparts, there are an increasing amount of opportunities for European investors in the region.
Incorporated in Munich in January of 2021, Dezan Shira & Associates’ German office serves as a first point of contact for European companies wishing to do business in Asia. The team here works with a variety of partners to educate more businesses on the economic performance and regulatory environment of developing Asian economies.
