Giovanni Lovisetti Lectures about the New Chinese Civil Code to 5th Year Law Students
On November 24, Giovanni Lovisetti introduced the Chinese and International regulations that are applicable to commercial contracts, to students of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
The Chinese Civil Code, in effect since January 2021, provided a comprehensive set of new general rules applicable to all contracts in China, as well as specific norms relating to certain types of contracts.
Giovanni Lovisetti, an Italian qualified lawyer who manages the Milan Liaison Office of Dezan Shira & Associates, introduced the Chinese and International regulations that are applicable to commercial contracts, covering the contracts most commonly performed by Italian and Chinese companies: international sales agreements, agency agreements and distribution agreements.
The audience was made up of over 30 students in their fifth year in Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore’s Law department. Prof. Francesca Benatti, the professor of the Private Comparative course, invited Giovanni to teach a lesson in the course, bringing with him his experience in working with Italian companies in China and Asia.
During the November 24th guest lecture, the students learned about the theoretical interaction between the Civil Code and international laws affecting the performance of an international sale, agency and distribution agreement. Giovanni also provided additional practical information about the most important terms and conditions that cannot be left out of a contract, stressing the aspects which – in the daily practice of negotiating and drafting contracts – turn out to be the most critical to negotiate.
