Thomas Zhang discusses China’s Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL)
Recently, Thomas Zhang, Group IT Director at Dezan Shira & Associates spoke at the 2021 Personal Information Protection Seminar co-hosted by Beijing Yingke (Suzhou) Law Firm, Co-Lift Management Consulting, and the Suzhou Industrial Park Enterprise Development Promotion Committee.
With a range of new data compliance regulations introduced in 2021, an increasing number of businesses are focusing on network security and data compliance. How to effectively establish and implement a comprehensive data internal control system that prevents leakage and guarantees network security has become the major focus of enterprises and individuals.
The seminar began with a warm welcome speech by Xiao Han, Executive Director of Yingke (Suzhou) Law Firm.
Dezan Shira’s IT Director, Thomas Zhang followed by diving into how to be compliant with China’s new Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) from an IT perspective. Thomas covered key topics such as the definition of personal information, cross-border data transfers, and the impact of the law on business operations, highlighting how important it is for companies to take action now to come into compliance.
Weihong Guo, Partner of Yingke Shanghai, then discussed the PIPL from a legal perspective providing examples of common violations regarding personal information, the legal consequences for violating the law, and the obligations of companies that deal with personal information.
