Dezan Shira & Associates had the pleasure of hosting Claremont Graduate University’s EMBA Class during their one-week study trip to Vietnam.

Tom Short, a research intern at our Ho Chi Minh City office, delivered an engaging presentation that explored the China+1 strategy and its implications for ASEAN market opportunities, with a particular focus on U.S. trade amidst the evolving global supply chain dynamics.

In his presentation, Tom provided an in-depth analysis of China’s shifting strategic position in both regional and global trade.

He covered a wide range of topics, including the impact of Chinese goods circumventing tariffs through countries like Vietnam and Mexico, the evolving political landscape, and the insights from the Emerging Asia Manufacturing Index 2024.

Tom emphasized ASEAN’s critical role in balancing global supply chain shifts, highlighting Vietnam’s strategic advantage due to its robust regional and global integration.

Joining Tom were ASEAN Director Marco Förster, Vietnam Marketing Lead Julia Goeb, and Italian Desk Intern Linda Mazzoni. Together, they engaged with the students in a dynamic discussion, stressing the importance of understanding local nuances and navigating complex regulatory environments.
